Darstellung einer homologen Reihe von oligoallylalkoholen mit 1-cyano-1-methylethyl-endgruppen. Beispiel einer mehrfachen matrizenreaktion und einer …

1984

Reduction and hydrolysis of the ladder oligomers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 prepared from the acrylates of oligo (hydroxyphenylene-methylene)s was found to lead to a homologous series of oligo (allylalcohol)s (6a, 7a, 8a, 9a and10a) with good yields. These alcohols were characterized by analytical and spectroscopic methods. The reaction sequences, starting with the esterification of the oligo[(hydroxyphenylene) methylene]s 11a – 11e with acryloyl chloride followed by the formation of the ladder oligomers and ending with their reduction and hydrolysis into the oligo(allyl alcohol)s and the starting compounds 11a – 11e, represent a simple matrix reaction. A mixture of multiple acrylates was also subje…

Phenyl methacrylates can easily be prepared with yields of pure esters up to 95% by reaction of the phenolic compounds with methacryloyl chloride in cooled benzene (5—10°C) in the presence of triethylamine. Three simple phenyl methacrylates and ten oligo[(2-hydroxy-1,3-phenylene)methylene]s completely esterified by methacryl…

Novel acrylamido monomers with higher hydrophilicity and improved hydrolytic stability: I. Synthetic route and product characterization.

1996

The novel acrylamido monomer reported by our group (N-acryloylaminoethoxyethanol, AAEE; Chiari et al., Electrophoresis 1994, 15, 177-186), found to combine high hydrophilicity with extraordinary resistance to alkaline hydrolysis, has come under closer scrutiny due to unexpected and random autopolymerization while stored as a 1/1 v/v water solution at 4 degrees C (possibly due to a greater oxidability of the ether group). We have additionally found a unique degradation pathway of the monomer, called "1-6 H-transfer", by which the C1 (on the double bond site), by constantly ramming against the C6, next to the ether oxygen (O7, which in fact favors the transfer of the hydrogen atom by C1), pro…

Synthesis of hyperbranched poly(tert-butyl acrylate) by self-condensing atom transfer radical polymerization of a macroinimer

2000

Using 2-hydroxyethyl α-bromoisobuty-rate as initiator, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of tert-butyl acrylate leads to poly(tert-butyl acrylate) (PtBA) with a hydroxyl group at one and a bromine atom at the other end. Esterification of the hydroxyl group of these heterotelechelic polymers with acryloyl chloride yields PtBA (M n = 3060) with a polymerizable double bond at one end and a bromine atom at the other end which can act as an initiator in ATRP (macroinimer). Self-condensing ATRP of such a macroinimer leads to hyperbranched or highly branched PtBA. The polymer was characterized by GPC viscosity measurements. Even at M w = 78800, a rather low polydispersity index of M w M …

p-Cresol and eight oligo[(hydroxyphenylene)methylene] compounds 1b–e and 4a–d could be esterified with good yields with acryloyl chloride or propionyl chloride, respectively, in the presence of triethylamine. The simple and multiple acrylates and propionates were characterized by determination of their molar masses, elemental analyses, hydrogenation of the CC double bonds in the acrylate groups, and by their IR- and UV-spectra. No steric hindrance could be ascertained. Acrylates with more than three phenolic units in their molecules were found to have a range of melting, whereas all the propionates possess sharp melting points. This can be explained by polymerization of the acrylates which …
